Fire alarm (or boxing) bell, found in Western Pa.

Round One! We really considered mounting this in our living room for our four young kids, but decided against it. Although it sounds like what we now associate with boxing, we’ve been told they were fire alarms! This bell was found in a log cabin in Western Pennsylvania. The frame is brass and it does still ring!

Reclaimed from Philadelphia Church

Your guess is as good as ours on these….these four “windows” (?) were removed from a Philadelphia church during recent renovations. The interior circle seems to be reverse hand-painted bubbly glass secured with lead. That is surrounded by what appears to be a more modern plexiglass of sorts with hand painted black lines separating a kaleidoscope of colors. The paintings in the circle are of the Ten Commandments, the Bible and sickle, a Dove and a Lamb with Flag.

It is missing an interior bottle guide and the door for the change collector (on side).

Pepsi Cola was founded by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist from North Carolina who invented the recipe himself in 1893. It was originally called “Brad’s Drink” in his pharmacy and he renamed it “Pepsi Cola” or “Pep Cola” after the key ingredients, pepsin and cola nuts. The original Pepsi colors were blue and white. Red was added during WWII as a show for Pepsi’s patriotism.

Hand wrought chest lock. c. late 1700's

These locks are hand forged locks from the late 1700-early 1800′s. We found them among knee high debris in the attic of a log cabin in Perry County. One is more complete, with the hasp still intact. The detail is amazing and there is no question a master locksmith made this piece. If you look closely, you can see that the hinge is in the design of a tulip. Upon even closer inspection, you can see that all around the circumference of the face are tulips carefully etched in the iron. It went on the front of a trunk and very likely locked the valuables of someone traveling by ship from Europe to America!

From Moyer's Barn: Red Hill, PA.

This is a 1940′s Ford 9N tractor manufactured at the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, MI. We found it under a fallen shed roof that was attached to a barn we removed for the Moyer’s of Red Hill, Pa. What seemed to Mr. Moyer as just a short period has been over a decade by the time we found this workhorse. After removing the fallen roof and several trees, our sheer muscle (and large machine) and excitement pulled the tractor out. We hope to find someone young at heart who will enjoy restoring it as much as we enjoyed pretending to drive it. Engine noises and all.

Turn of the century barn ventilators

These barn ventilators were removed from an early 1800′s barn near Gettysburg, Pa. They ventilators were added in the early 1900′s and what makes them particularly unique is the craftsmanship and ornate design. Anything of this time period that had ornate details was a sign of wealth. They are made of steel and stand approximately 8 ft high and 3.5 ft. wide. Many people do not know that the cause of most early barn fires were not from accidents such as a fallen lantern rather spontaneous combustion from the hay. Barn ventilators helped air circulate through the barn.

What we love even more than the craftsmanship is the stories of time that these now tell. To some, a bullet hole may distract from the value. But to us, it adds value with its’ story. Although there’s no real way to know the details, we see the farmer’s mischievous grandson with his first .22 rifle testing his marksmanship. You decide.

100 ft. by 45 ft. sawn hemlock frame

We are beginning shortly on a 45 by 100 ft. sawn hemlock frame. It needs very little repair which is included in the price of purchase. It’s a late 1800′s Pennsylvania bank barn. The owner is leaving the sleepers and rebuilding on them.
